RE: Should one single leader have the power to start a nuclear war?

in #politics6 years ago

No, but, and more importantly, in the US, no one man can. Despite Trump's talk of a "button" it actually requires three officials to order a nuclear launch, and of course different military leaders could refuse the order.

Plus, my personal opinion is that the JCS gave Trump fake codes. I truly believe that.

Norko prolly has real codes though. All it takes is one launch :(

Yeah, but the Koreans only want nuclear weapons so that they can defend themselves. They aren't just under constant threat of invasion, but they are also suffering from nearly 70 years of international trade embargoes.

America is the only nation to ever use a nuclear weapon as a weapon. Nobody wants nuclear war, you would have to be psychopathic, and suicidal, and actively want to end pretty much all life on Earth, which even for those suffering the worst of an anti-social personality disorder is insane. (No pun intended) And on top of that, you would have to be given the ability to launch a nuclear attack, which means the top nuclear scientists and then the top military commanders would have to be willing to trust you with the fate of the world.

I have trouble believing that most nuclear powers are actually ready for a launch nowadays, I mean even during the Cold War individual commanders were given the last choice to launch or not.
