Media rigging global warming conversation

in #politicslast year

I think sensibly when it comes to environmentalism. I believe there is a certain balance that can and should be achieved in the balance of quality of life and conservation. I, like many people, think that the media is overplaying anything related to environmental decline and struggle to understand why they would do so. There is plenty of real evidence to indicate that things are being done incorrectly in the world such as the amount of plastic in the ocean. We also know who the real culprits are in this, but rarely point the finger in that direction. Instead we point the finger at the nations that are already doing a great deal in the name of conservation and people use it for political advantage.

The great issue I have with the media manipulation of this is that just like with many other things, they are intentionally misleading the public about certain things and blowing things out of proportion. These stories end up affecting people emotionally and they take it as fact but if they bothered to look into the story at all, or even look at a counter-story about the exact same topic, they would realize that they are being manipulated.

Take these for example, which are all stories from the Meme Policeman, which is a wonderful site and FB page for debunking things that commonly get circulated on the internet by blowhard friends of yours and mine. The fact they come from the NY Times and ABC should be all the information that you need to know that they are politically motivated in nature and of course they use misleading pictures because unless you actually read the story, which most people wont, you wont realize that the reading that they took was in a shallow wetland and they cherry-picked the reading. This wetland is shallow and the water doesn't circulate very quickly, so therefore, due to certain tides, the water will stagnate during certain times of day and it is actually very common for sitting water in direct sunlight to reach very high temperatures. Don't believe me? Put some tea in a bottle in the sun in the summertime and see if it brews, It will!

The measurements they took were from one specific place and it was only at that temperature for a very short period of time. As it turns out the temperature in that same location dropped 30 degrees F by the same night, but they don't publish that because doing so would be actual journalism instead of sensationalism, which is really all the major news media does these days.

I would be a lot more likely to believe the "experts" and the news stations about global warming if it wasn't for the fact that basically every story that they tell can easily be identified and hokum if you bother to look a little bit. This story's objective is to garner support for politicians that are going to push a "green" agenda and probably also an attempt to smear Florida's leadership, which is primarily conservative.

You can't trust anyone these days and I encourage everyone to take everything they see from the media, especially on social media, and immediately presume they are lying to you.

Duh. Didn't you know that every place on the planet is warming up 2x as fast as the other ones?

only 2x? I thought the figure was much higher than that... because of oil!
