What Was Johnny Depp Drinking, I Mean Thinking?!

Johnny Depp is widely known for his roles in Edward Scissor Hands, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, and of course as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise. However, Depp has recently caught the unwanted attention of not only his fans but the Secret Service while speaking at the UK's Glastonbury music festival Thursday night. Video shows Depp slurring his words as he states, “When was the last time an actor assassinated a president? Now I want to clarify, I am not an actor. I lie for a living. However, it’s been awhile and maybe it’s time.”

While it is unclear if he was referring to the assassination of President Lincoln in 1865 by then actor John Wilks Booth, or if he truly did not know, the comment has since sparked massive backlash from his once adoring fans. The Secret Service was quick to release a statement that they were aware of Depp's statement and that threats against the President are considered a crime under U.S. law and punishable by fine or even time in prison. After the shooting at the Republican Congressional softball practice in Alexandria near Washington DC, it's no surprise comments like Depp's give the Secret Service cause for alarm. That also mixed with his domestic violence reports against his wife Amber Heard, who released a video of Husband Johnny Depp getting physically abusive with her before the video comes to an abrupt end.

Johnny Depp isn't the only celebrity to make this political mistake. Actress Kathy Griffin has also made quite the spectacle of herself when she released pictures of her holding a fake severed head of President Trump resulting in cancelled tour dates, fan backlash, and she was fired from CNN's annual New Year's Eve program.


Jim Carrey added fuel to the fire when he responded to Kathy Griffin's pictures by adding, "hold up a severed leg as well"

Regardless of your political stance, truth of the matter is behavior like this is only encouraging hate and violence. These actors should take a few lessons from other A-List celebrities who have wisely chosen to keep politics out of their career. If you've read my previous article, "Why Celebrities & Politics Don't Mix" then you'll know that Kevin Hart believes that by pushing political beliefs on people, it would alienate some of his audience. This is truly not only smart, but how a mature role model should carry themselves. Whatever your political stance is, let's all be the bigger person here and be the role models for our little ones where these actors have failed.
