10 Facts About Hillary Clinton You Need To Know

Hillary Clinton is the favourite to be the next President of the United States, but could her history of scandals and controversy leave her open to being trumped in the 2016 election?

Boasting a long political career of achievements and successes, Clinton certainly has the experience and knowledge to be the United States’ first female President. Not only that, but because Clinton has been involved in politics for so long, voters have the luxury of not having to do too much research in finding who she is and what she stands for. However, unfortunately for Clinton, her political career has also been plagued with scandal after scandal. Indeed, in the past four years alone, Clinton has been heavily criticized for her role in the Benghazi attacks and her decision to use a private email for work related to the US State department.

However, instead of focusing on the recent scandals which are more well known, this article will reveal the scandals and unnerving facts that US voters are less likely to know about. For instance, how many knew that Hillary Clinton is currently the first and only First Lady in modern history to be Subpoenaed? Or that Time Warner – the owners of CNN – are one of Clinton’s top financial contributors?

Ultimately, the intention of this article isn’t to demonize the Presidential candidate, rather it’s too educate voters on the facts they may not know so that they’re better informed come election day.

10 . Clinton Is The First And Only First Lady To Be Subpoenaed

In 1996, Hillary Clinton made history for all the wrong reasons when she became the first ever First Lady to be subpoenaed for her role in the Whitewater Scandal. The Whitewater Scandal concerned a series of investigations into the Clinton’s shady relationship with Whitewater Development Corporation, a real estate development firm based in Arkansas. During the investigation, Hillary Clinton was subpoenaed and forced to testify before a federal grand jury regarding her Whitewater billing records. Although the investigation concluded with many of the Clinton’s friends being fined and jailed, both Bill and Hillary emerged from the scandal unscathed without any legal penalties.

9 . Hillary Clinton Used To Be A Registered Republican

For much of her early life, Hillary Clinton was an active Republican. Clinton first got involved in politics at age 13, when she canvassed in Chicago after coming across evidence of electoral fraud against Richard Nixon in the 1960 Presidential Election. In 1964, Clinton also actively campaigned for Republican candidate Barry Goldwater. Furthermore, during her freshmen year at Wellesley College, Clinton served as the President of the Young Republicans. It was only during the Vietnam War and the progression of the Civil Rights Movement that Hillary’s political views started to shift.

8 . Time Warner Is One Of Hillary Clinton’s Largest Donors

CNN: is it the Cable News Network or the Clinton News Network? So far in the Democratic leadership contest, you may have noticed that CNN has consistently favoured Hillary Clinton – whether it be through writing predominantly positive articles on her leadership, rating her as the best performer in all the debates, or refusing to report on her speeches to Wall Street. The reason for this is that CNN is owned by Time Warner Inc., the world’s third largest television network which has donated millions of dollars to Clinton over the course of her political career. Having invested money in Clinton, Time Warner has a stake in seeing her succeed.

7 . Clinton Used To Oppose Same-Sex Marriage www.youtube.com
It’s been often said that a good politician is someone who says what the majority of people want to hear. If this statement is true, Hillary is a fantastic politician. For example, when the general US public opposed same-sex marriage, so did Clinton. In 2000, then New York Senator Clinton publicly stated she would have voted in favour of the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA), a law signed by her husband in 1996 which prohibited the federal government recognizing same-sex marriages. In fact, before 2005 when she began to shift her stance on the matter, there were many occasions when Clinton came out denouncing same-sex marriage.

6 . Hillary Has Received Donations From Donald Trump & Attended His Wedding

If you were to tune into any of the major US news networks – which I’d advise against – it’s likely you’d reach the conclusion that Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are heated rivals. This is because since the start of the 2016 election campaign period, Clinton and Trump have been trading an array of insults and criticisms. Already Trump has labelled Clinton as “the worst Secretary of State in the history of the United States,” and Clinton has compared Trump to a “loose cannon.” Now, although I agree with each candidate’s statements, what many people may be unaware of is the fact that, before this election cycle, Clinton and Trump were close friends. Indeed, not only have the Clintons received a number of financial favours from Trump in the recent past, they also attended his wedding to Melania Trump in 2005. Based on the pictures of the wedding, the Clintons enjoyed themselves.

5 . Clinton Voted For The Iraq War

Following the tragic 9/11 attacks, Hillary voted in favour of the Iraq War. Based on Clinton’s voting record as well as her foreign policy outlook, this isn’t surprising. During the 2008 Democratic Primary races, then Democratic nominee Barack Obama accused Hillary Clinton of sounding “just like George W. Bush” by using scare-tactics to promote military interventionism in the Middle East. However, this wouldn’t stop Obama from appointing Clinton as Secretary of State, where she would go on to support military intervention in Libya, Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

4 . Clinton Once Laughed At The Death Of A Foreign Leader

Shortly after receiving word of the death of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, Libya’s leader from 1969 to 2011, Hilary Clinton was caught on video joking with a news reporter. In the video, Clinton is filmed cheering “We came, we saw, he died,” before laughing with the news reporter. There’s no doubt that Muammar Gaddafi was a dictator who committed a number of atrocities against his own people, but it’s still troubling that the United States’ Secretary of State would laugh about such a serious matter. Especially considering that Libya is now in a much worse off situation than it was under Gaddafi’s regime, with the government unable to rebuild itself and a number of different terror organizations – including ISIS – making significant gains.

3 . Secretary Clinton Refused To List Boko Haram As A Terrorist Organization

Boko Haram is an Islamic extremist group based in Nigeria and other parts of Africa with ties to both Al-Qaeda and ISIS. Considering the group has claimed the lives of over 20,000 people, displaced more than 2.3 million from their homes and publicly announced its support for ISIS, it’s easy to understand why the Global Terrorism Index listed them as the world’s most deadly terrorist organization in 2015. What’s less easy to understand is why Secretary Clinton refused to list Boko Haram as a terrorist organization, especially after being urged by Justice Department official Lisa Monaco and Chief of U.S. Africa Command Gen. Carter Ham.

2 . Clinton’s Top Financial Contributions Come From Wall Street

So far in the 2016 Democratic Primary race, Hillary Clinton has attempted to attract Bernie Sanders supporters by painting herself as a candidate who’ll take on Wall Street and clamp down on the big banks. However, many are skeptical of Clinton’s promises based on the fact that a number of her top financial contributions have come from Wall Street. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, from 2003 to 2008, Citigroup inc. and Goldman Sachs were Clinton’s two largest financial contributors. Furthermore, over the course of her political career, Clinton has also received huge donations from JP Morgan Chase and Morgan Stanley. Ultimately, the question on the minds of many US voters is, do Clinton’s past actions speak louder than her words?

1 . Clinton Once Referred To Young Kids As “Super-Predators” Whilst Pushing Her Husband’s Crime Bill

Whilst First Lady, Hillary Clinton campaigned for her husband’s 1994 crime bill, which saw an unprecedented number of African-Americans put in jail – often for petty crimes like smoking marijuana. However, this point isn’t about the crime bill itself, rather it’s about the language Clinton used when promoting the bill. Speaking in New Hampshire on January 25, 1996, Clinton referred to gang members and drug dealers as “super-predators,” individuals with no empathy and no conscience who needed to be brought to heel. What’s wrong with this term isn’t that it was used to justify mass incarceration, but that it’s been historically used to refer specifically to African-Americans. Recently, Clinton reportedly admitted she regretted using the term and wouldn’t do so again.

Secretary Clinton Refused To List Boko Haram As A Terrorist Organization - Thanks for that I had no idea.

A federal prosecutor needs to open an investigation into the Clinton Foundation. Will happen as soon as America has a Republican President running the DOJ, though Obama may give the Clintons a presedential pardon.

I loved this litany of horsesh!t I've heard 1000 times already, all collected in one bag. By the way, Trump was a Democrat before he swapped himself over to the GOP...
