Politics or Sales?

It boggles my brain that so much of politics is actually sales. Politicians are salespeople who rely on their charm, good public speaking, and doctored public image to gain devout followers. Where are the practical solutions? Maybe we should be voting for laws, bills, projects and policies instead of for people.
