The The Fall of Lybia (2011) // La Chute de Kadhaffi, une affaire de rivalités ?

Bonjour à tous ! Aujourd'hui, j’aimerais revenir sur le rôle indirect qu’a eu Berlusconi dans la Crise Migratoire récente. Comme tout le monde le sait, Berlusconi et Sarkozy se détestent. Ainsi, quand Sarkozy était président de la République Française et Sylvio Berlusconi Premier Ministre de l’Italie, les tensions n’étaient pas rares.

Berlusconi était proche de Kadhafi, il revendiquait l’avoir amadoué et rendu présentable en Occident. Il faut dire que les liens entre la Lybie et l’Italie sont très forts, ceci étant dû au passé colonial et à la proximité géographique. La stabilité de la Lybie est une des priorités de la diplomatie italienne on peut dire et on a compris aujourd’hui que la Lybie était en effet une sorte de pivot en Méditerrannée. Ainsi en 2011, quand le Printemps Arabe a éclaté, il y a eu des troubles en Lybie. Les troupes de Kadafi avaient encore la possibilité de calmer la rébellion en envoyant des chars à Benghazi. C’est là que ça devient intéressant : Sarkozy va ordonner à l’aviation française de bombarder les colonnes de blindés lybiens pour affaiblir Kadhafi. Cette décision a été prise juste avant un sommet avec Berlusconi, où ils devaient discuter de la situation lybienne. Donc en fait il a fait ça pour forcer la main de Berlusconi et l’obliger à lâcher son allié.

Ce point de l’Histoire laisse très interrogateur. La décision de faire tomber Kadafi apparait en effet de plus en plus discutable : non seulement, il semblerait que Sarkozy avait une motivation personnelle très bizarre à vouloir liquider Kadafi et d’autre part, cela a contribué à faire de Kadafi une sorte de martyre africain injustement liquidé par les Occidentaux. Dans cette affaire, il aurait été bon d’établir une coordination européenne et peut être que Berlusconi aurait pu être utile et éviter l’explosion de la Lybie. La désintégration de la Lybie a conduit à la Crise des migrants car le pays est devenu ensuite une sorte de no man’s land où les Migrants ont été soumis aux pires horreurs et où personne n’a pu organiser de solution jusqu’à il y a quelques semaines et la rencontre entre Macron et 2 grands chefs rebelles libyens.

Berlusconi was close to Gaddafi, he claimed to have cajoled and made presentable in the West. The links between Libya and Italy are very strong, this is due to the colonial past and the geographical proximity. The stability of Libya is one of the priorities of the Italian diplomacy we can say and we understood today that Libya was indeed a kind of pivot in the Mediterranean (2 years ago, Renzi has proposed to send thousands of italian soldiers to secure the coast). So in 2011, when the Arab Spring broke out, there were troubles in Libya. Kadafi's troops were still able to calm the rebellion by sending tanks to Benghazi. This become interesting: Sarkozy will order the French air force to bomb the Libyan armored columns to weaken Kadhafi. This decision was made just before a summit with Berlusconi, where they had to discuss the situation in Libya. So in fact he did that to force Berlusconi's hand and force him to let go of his ally.

This point of History is quite strange. The decision to bring down Kadhafi appears more and more questionable: it seems that Sarkozy had a very bizarre personal motivation to want to liquidate Kadhafi and secondly, it has helped to make Kadhafi a kind of African martyrdom unfairly liquidated by Westerners. In this case, it would have been good to establish a European coordination and perhaps Berlusconi could have been useful and avoided the explosion of Libya. The disintegration of Libya led to the Migrant Crisis as the country then became a kind of no-man's land where Migrants were subjected to the worst horrors and no one could arrange a solution until a few months ago. weeks and the meeting between Macron and two major Libyan rebel leaders.
