Shaped by maladies bred
long before we were even born,
we became a plague
and plunged into the world,
as arrogance brought upon itself.

The foster children of a civilization
founded on rivalry and rancor,
pitted against each other as pawns,
in squares - ebony or white,
over a petty place in a stale hierarchy.

Blessed with a vision
but bedeviled with its loss,
we were baptised in lies.
The red on the wall bespoke of our rage,
as they renounced our holy destiny.

And yet amongst us were the ones,
who sought revenge upon their parentage
and pridefully wore
the shame which they had brought
to families who had denied them.

Had they known how great
was the sacrifice they were to make?
For one cannot erase what’s past
without acknowledging the task,
and its disciples as symptoms.

And so we agreed to take a stand,
and let history decide,
who will live and who will die,
as we sit by and watch and laugh,
at the banality of our existence.

We gave a solemn oath and swore
to avenge the world from our couch,
and forfeit all action for observation.
A vengeance far more potent
than any a lunatic could ever master.

We are the seeds that they have spawned,
and all we have to do is grow
into the sickness they foretold.
And when society turns to dust,
be it on a note as sweet as coca-cola.
