It’s fascinating to watch the GOP rally around Alex Jones, even after he has been repeatedly revealed to have built his career on defrauding them.
Just relentless, unconditional, hypocritical support for a guy who has several times now publicly admitted that his business model is to fleece them. They’re arguing that Jones (a public figure) is the victim because his address and phone number have been leaked, while arguing that it was “free speech” for him to sic his deranged followers on the parents of the victims of a mass shooting, including by publishing their names, addresses, and phone numbers.
They’re arguing that Jones was “just asking questions,” or speaking truth to power for fabricating the story of Sandy Hook as a false flag and a hoax, even after he has admitted that he knew the attack was genuine.
They’re arguing that Jones is the victim of a smear campaign orchestrated by the Conspirators, even after Jones has repeatedly admitted in court that his conspiracy stories are fantasy, spun from whole cloth for entertainment. They believe the conspiracy stories and reject reality, nonetheless.
Some of these people, pleading for credibility, argue that Jones doesn’t speak for them, even as Jones’ ties to their Messiah include volumes of personal correspondence, and joint public appearances, up to and including coordinating the 1/6 rebellion together. Even as their leaders—not just Trump, but DeSantis, Gaets, Paul—continue to promote Infowars’ talking points, such as anti-vax conspiracy theories, 9/11 “Truth,” accusing Hillary Clinton of leading an elite pedophile ring (note the steady stream of pedos revealed from among this leadership), ”Deep State” conspiracies, and so forth.
And the kicker, truly the most fascinating part, is that the Dems, being a bunch of populist conspiracy theorists themselves, are STILL not willing to push back on any of this.
