I think Trump has taught us something we have intuitively known all our lives.

Two "professions" that have risen to an extremely influential status in our society are academia and politics. In politics it's obvious why they have influence. Their job involves making public policy. In the case of academia it's a bit different. Generally speaking, academics become academics by simply never finishing their university education. By finishing I mean closing out that chapter of preparation for life and moving on to something productive. They remain tethered to university culture in some way.

Academics usually don't start out dirt poor. Their careers as columnists, journalists, think-tank members, speakers, visiting professors, actual professors, book writers and award collectors are made possible by family wealth. I combine them with politicians because both categories are inhabited with people who shape policy that affects ranchers, oil field workers, truckers, builders, restaurant owners, insurance brokers, doctors, dock workers and engineers. People who have learned a productive skill necessary for the function of a civilization and earn their keep by doing it.

Academics and politicians do nothing more than voice opinions. Donald Trump is different in this regard. He was actually a productive member of society before he became a politician. That's why he doesn't act like they do. In his world rhetoric and sashaying and subtleness doesn't cut the mustard. Just like with most of us working people. It's why we're attracted to him. He speaks our language. It's the language of "git er done".

A leader HAS to be one of us. For way to long our country has been run by career idea men who always have ideas about how the rest of us should live but have never had to employ those ideas for their own economic survival.
