Sad day for Spain and the EU: Spanish security services beat up old ladies and take a shit on democracy
I haven't posted much about politics since I first joined, but when I woke up this morning and checked my twitter feed, I was greeted with a photo of an elderly woman from Catalonia covered in blood:
As the Catalan people attempted to vote on Sunday, Spanish National Police units stormed polling booths, dragging would be voters away by their hair, beating them with fists, boots and batons, and firing on crowds that refused to move with rubber bullets.
Whether or not you think the Catalan people have the right to declare independence is besides the point. All people have the right to freedom of political expression and this is a blatant attack on that right, and an attack on democracy as a whole.
Franco's been dead for more than 40 years, but it seems fascism is still alive and kicking in Spain ... can you really blame the people of Catalonia if they decide to kick back?
It is never about the people, it is all about the 20% annual GDP from Catalonia.
Its always about the bottom line, when a politician is talking always keep a hand on your wallet. Power and money go hand in hand, the politicians in central government in Madrid and bureaucracy in Brussels are not going to let all of this power go without a fight, particularly when they have such an advantage in applicable power. Democracy is all well and good when it serves the powers at be, but power is power and it is most often held by the power hungry.
Spain is broke. EU is broke. France and Germany has gone to hell ( by that I mean socialists and rapefuges.) We can only expect more of this. In fact this could be the future of USSA. I'd be glad to witness the death of USSA and all their likes. But what I can't stand is good people suffering.
I know my voice won't be heard much. But my proposal is to stop feeding the gov beast. The good people of Catalonia should simply stop paying their taxes. Gov can cage few. But if every single one who voted for Independence stopped paying taxes, that's a blow. Spread this message people. Create a Tax strike.

I think that every human being has the right to choose, violence will not solve the problem, even cause a new problem, very interesting description.
Yes, I heard the reports on the radio this morning and later saw the pictures on the evening news. Just shocking to see uniformed police acting like thugs. This kind of over reaction will backfire. If Spain wants to delegitimize the vote for independence they should let the courts decide.

Somewhere there is a point where "enough is enough" and in some places this is getting very close!
@bulleth - again here more than in discord... It's horrible what so called "democracy" allowed governments to do... I would be blaming people of Catalonia only if they not GO ALL TO BREAK THEM APART! There is not enough SNP's around how many people can come and break the shit out of them.
Ofc they have rights! and they don't have even minimal one they deserve by this tweet!
