Classical Liberalism 101: A Victory for Patriots!

In case you've never heard of or have forgotten about the Bundy Ranch and the whole government boondoggle that went along with it, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) decided they would break the treaty that the US government had with certain ranchers (this is happening around the U.S., by the way) and decided to kill off a free-range herd of livestock -- at which point the ranchers armed themselves and made the federal government stand down.

Later, to defend against similar incursions, the ranchers and their supporters took over a small Fish and Wildlife Department outpost in the Oregon wilderness. See here, for a rather naive explanation published before the culmination of the events that soon ensued.
I remember watching it almost live on youtube, as they were surrounded and hunted down by several federal agencies and, not long after, local sheriff offices and the Oregon State Police.
In the end, a very honest and principled old-timer, LaVoy Finicum, was ambushed and shot dead on his way to negotiate with the Sheriff after he jumped out of his vehicle -- unarmed -- to stop the agents from shooting at his friends (including a teenage girl).
As if that one grave miscarriage of justice were not enough, the survivors were arrested and thrown in prison, where they were treated like terrorists (though perhaps not quite as bad as at Guantanamo).
The good news is that they have recently been exonerated of their alleged crimes and that, as of this week, the federal agencies who planned the unconstitutional attack on the Bundys and Finicums have been found guilty of several constitutional violations against the personal rights of those accused.

So let's bow a head in solemn recognition of Finicum's dedication and self-sacrifice, but let us also rejoice the fact that a certain type of justice was served!

Sort:

Crazy story!

Did you follow it as it was unfolding? I was glued to youtube ;)

Had no clue about it, actually..

To be honest, the story is much more nuanced, but it was basically premeditated murder on the government agents' part as I see it. Sort of like Ruby Ridge and Waco, but more calculated.

I'll have to do some reading on it.

Let me know if you find anything relevant!

Interesting how we don't hear about them being exonerated of their alleged crimes and the government being found guilty...not really. Thanks for helping people see the rest of the story, one that I fear has long been forgotten. May LaVoy Finicum rest in peace.

LaVoy Finicum was murdered. He is another martyr for liberty's cause. I will never forget him or those responsible.

Agreed. May he rest in peace!

... and don't forget the alleged "Kill Book" that the unnamed whistleblower said that BLM big-wig Dan Love had - in which he bragged about being the cause of the "suicides" of 3 Utah ranchers. I am so happy that these ranchers were somewhat vindicated, but they have all made huge sacrifices and endured losses they may never recover from.

I don't know anything about Dan Love or his Kill Book. Can you fill me in?

Sure! Here is what I first read... The whistle-blower (Wooten) actually sent his 18 pg complaint to the Fed DoJ.

Wooten said he learned from other agency supervisors that Love had a "Kill Book'' as a "trophy,'' in which he essentially bragged about "getting three individuals in Utah to commit suicide,'' following a joint FBI-BLM investigation into the alleged trafficking of stolen artifacts.

Now those are some disturbing details. Thank you!

No problem!

This post has received gratitude of 0.78 % from @appreciator thanks to: @brentssanders.

Heard a lot of stories about the BLM doing really bad stuff in the Northwest. People from Idaho, Orgeon and Washington state have had their lands seized under bullshit mandates and laws with little recourse to regain property. Some of which has been in familes for over 100 years

It's a travesty of justice. Let's hope the State of Jefferson project goes through.

Very interesting, going to look more into this

Thank you for your interest!
