GENDER WAGE GAP MYTH - DEBUNKING FALLACIOUS ARGUMENTS N°1.

in #politics6 years ago (edited)

To talk about the wage gap between men and women nowadays is a difficult issue to address without being accused by feminists of oppressing and defending capitalism and heteropatriarchy.

For decades, market critics have used the rhetoric that women earn only a percentage of what men earn to argue that the market and capitalism discriminate against women. Today, the narrative around the wage gap between women and men is a complicated issue, many groups of feminists are advocating for equal pay, without really analyzing what is happening and why these differences are occurring, they are demanding and demanding more and more. Despite biological differences, interests, dedication, and effort, many governments and feminist groups continue to believe these statements. Including ex-former presidential candidate Hilary Clinton, who continues to tell women they are making less money than men for the same job, based on statistics to demand legislation that leads to state interventionism in employer-employee relations.

✅ According to The White House Equal pay website reports

in the united states, women who work full time earn only 78 cents for every dollar a man earns.

The National Organization for Women website states:

For full time, in a year of work, women are paid about 77 cents of what men are paid. Women are not currently receiving equal pay for the same work, and without being underestimated for the same value of work.

The same Obama administration ordered the creation of a new national monument for women's equality in the name of the pay gap, and declared April 12 as Equal Pay Day, a celebration that serves as a reminder that women still earn 21 percent less than men.

The White House, like other organizations that have promoted this myth, have manipulated the statistics in a way that convinces women that they are victims of a discriminatory social system and therefore they must stand up to demand equality from the government, and these statistics have been refuted time and again. These numbers do not take into account many decisions that women and men make that influence earnings such as education, years of experience and hours worked. If you really want to have a frank discussion about the wage gap, you should have one after you make adjustments for those factors.

According toThe official Bureau of Labor Department statistics the average full-time earnings of working women are 77 cents of the average full-time earnings of working men. So this is very different from "77 cents on the dollar for doing the same job as a man". The latest statistics give the impression that a man and a woman are paid completely different wages for the same work. That is not the case at all. "Full-time" means 35 hours, but men work more hours than women, men are willing to work double shifts, as well as work weekends and overtime, so they end up working around 40 to 45 hours a week. That is the first problem; these statistics compare the 40 or 45 hours that men work with the 35 hours that women work. The other problem is that the range of salary figures between full-time men and women evaluates all types of jobs regardless of taking into account the skills and preferences of workers. That 77 cents on the dollar are an addition, not a comparison of men and women doing the same job. Therefore, the argument that women are paid less than men for the same work is a myth.

The other argument used by feminists is that those missing 33 cents represent discrimination against working women. Once you understand where the rhetoric of that gap comes from, it becomes clear that it is a fallacious argument. To recognize if there is perse discrimination, it is necessary to make a comparison of apples-to-apples. In fact, this is what the economic studies on the wage gap are trying to do. They try to do their best to compare employees who are as similar as possible, and who are employed in jobs that are as similar as possible, except that some are male and some are female. If there are any unexplained skills and experience gaps, economists assume that there is discrimination, so more research is needed. The conclusion of these studies is that the gap is clearly explained by skills, experience, and education. So there really is no such discrimination against women when it comes to jobs.

There are even professions where women are better paid than men, but no one talks about it because it is understood that women have characteristics and skills that fit better in certain jobs and therefore generate more profit. In England, men receive up to 75% less income for the same work in modeling. In the United States, film producers and directors are paid 6% less than women, and in the area of car and equipment cleaning, women are better paid. The same applies to special education teachers, transportation managers, storage, distribution, counselors, social service assistants, psychologists, nurses, veterinarians, dentists, among many other professions.

Feminists focus only and exclusively on seeking more benefits than they already have and ignore addressing major issues around the world, such as the human rights struggle for women in Saudi Arabia, or the prostitution of girls at early ages in countries such as India. Feminism is a movement that emerged for gender equality and that brought about truly significant and far-reaching changes for the development of our world in the last century. Today feminism instead of focusing on equality promotes inequality.

If feminism is so focused on equality, why don't they do anything to solve these problems:

  • In the United States between 100,000 and 140,000 men are raped in prisons every year,
  • 92% of workers who die during working hours are men,
  • 97% of casualties in war are men,
  • 77% of homicide victims are men.

If feminism is a movement that seeks and promotes equality, why aren't you doing anything to solve this kind of problem?

Why is it such an issue for you that women try to get equal pay in industries where they currently don't? You cite many examples where they do or where women get paid more (we can't all be models!), but not where they systematically don't, like in finance, public administration and science/tech jobs.

And, if you do happen to work in an industry where women get paid more than you, then just speak up about it. It's unfair either way, but it happens more to women than it does to men. There's no need to put down the entire feminist movement, just because you pick one thing that seems unfair to you as a man.

Because we are not equal. Men are better suitable for certain jobs, and women are better suitable for some others. Why would you receive the exact same payment for a Job in which you do not provide the requeired quality or effort? I'm not against women, whose qualities and skills fit for a job and can do exactly the same and also a better job as a men. I'm against those women who seek to create problems such as this, they create social disistabilization without even arguing from the reason.

Why would I speak up for something that is rasonable? Women get paid more on Modelling because the audience that looks for it are compoused of men!!! there's no problem there. Why would I demand equal payment if women do not consume that kind of material as a men do?

I'm not putting down the entire feminist movement, because there's no such thing as a third feminist movement. Instead what we have is a bunch of radicals who want to make abortion legal, to have more benefits, to discredit motherhood and women role. By just simply arguing that there's a patriarchy, when in fact there's no such thing as that. If you want to believe that you are oppressed then go to Saudi Arabia.

You have some pretty interesting thoughts here. I work in HR and often have the task of reviewing the salary matrix of individuals and doing market research on competitors.

So far with the way I do things i dont look at genders but only job scope. Also in a female dominated profession like mine I don't see that I am paid more or less than some of my counterparts.

Yea figures have just been manipulated to extrapolate the gap. I mean, of course, there's going to be a difference between the pay but does not necessarly mean that women are being discriminated or that people want to pay them less just because of their gender.

Too bad it got shot-down pretty quick.....

Sharing? I barely could say something. They shot me down without any reason and did not even let me finish my argument... Women on that show haven't even read my post. They jumped just into conclusions without even READING MY POST!!! They started calling me sexist. This is censorship.

Actually I had read the post and you had adequate time to present a summary.

It was not even a minute. The man after me also said: "That scalated quickly"

it may have seemed less than a minute to you .... I was well aware of the time and that you were not summarizing but arguing your point and that was not the time or place. My show, my call.

You just censured me because you don't want to hear the truth. Bigotry. Check the recording: https://steemit.com/dlive/@blackliberal/2ee5e580-49ca-11e8-aa5b-83da28bb4ae3 It was 1:20 min. Usually, people are given 3 min, there were posts where people talked more than 5 minutes.

I didn't have time to comment about this on PYPT because the women in the room shut you down pretty quick when you tried to voice your opinion on this.....

From my own personal experience, within the service industry specifically, women make FAR more than men in tips, simply because they are women. I have had customers outright refuse to be served by a male...

Nothing is black and white, and the wage gap is not the same across all jobs, though many will expect you to believe it's true....

Did you just get kicked from the show for voicing your opinon?!?!?

Awesome post!!!!
