Why is Trump attacking DeSantis?

in #politics2 years ago

Trump is a strange character. Love him or hate him I think that most people can agree that this statement is true. His brashness is one of the main reasons why I liked the guy. He doesn't pretend to like anyone and it appears as though he really doesn't have any interest in being part of the political machine. One could argue that this is a big part of the reason why he had such a massive campaign against him that lasted the entirety of his time in office and will likely continue until the day he dies.

Politics in the USA changed into a very toxic environment the likes of which I had never seen before once he ran for and won office.

Now that he is on the outside looking in I actually believe that he has more influence than he ever did when he was President but lately he seems to have very few if any allies and he also doesn't seem to be terribly interested in making any alliances and will burn bridges at the drop of a hat.

Trump and DeSantis have been friendly in the past and I think that they perhaps could have been considered buddies or political allies. Lately though, Trump has been attacking DeSantis and even gave him the nickname of DeSanctimonious

And now, Ron DeSanctimonious is playing games! The Fake News asks him if he’s going to run if President Trump runs, and he says, “I’m only focused on the Governor’s race, I’m not looking into the future.” Well, in terms of loyalty and class, that’s really not the right answer…

I don't understand why Trump would take time out of his day in order to try to make an enemy out of DeSantis, who is doing very well as far as popularity is concerned. Did Trump help him to get to that point? Sure! I still don't understand why DJT would go after someone that is meant to be on the same side as him. Maybe Trump just isn't content unless he is fighting everyone all the time.

If someone can shed some light on what it is that Trump might stand to gain by going after Ron, I would love to hear that information because for me right now it seems rather counterproductive.

The only thing that I can think of is that the Don sees Ron as a threat to his potential re-election as President in 2024 but in my opinion it would probably be better, if Ron is actually interested in running for this office, that Trump actually let Ron have it. There are a ton of people that truly hate Trump but not very many that have any particularly good reason to hate DeSantis.

Sort:

Some speculate that Trump is merely asserting his dominance

That certainly does seem like something he would do!
