RE: Why The So Called „Political Correctness“ is Too Political and ...SO SO SO SO SO.....ANYTHING BUT CORRECT!

in #politics7 years ago

I agree to a certain degree. The extreme ways societies go nowadays to modify the language they speak to match the 'local correct standard' is sometimes absurd (coloured instead of black).

And I even dare to say that in some environments it even bothers me. Like at work, where in certain societies workmates expect your e-mails to start with a 'Hello, how are you? How was the weekend? Is Mike feeling better?... ... ...' - Where all I want is a specific report.

However, that being said I realize that many times we actually have the ability to change the way we say certain things as they could trully offend someone for free. And by that, I mean the following example I heard a few days ago:

"I have been working like a black cottonpicker"

This was actually in Spanish, and actually a common phrase in Spain. But I feel that there is absolutely no need to make that kind of remark which has a pretty recent history. This is an example where I find that even I, every now and then realize I say things that could offend and I have no trouble saying differently without altering the way we are or speak as fortunatelly, we all have a wide variety of vocabulary and sayings we use frequently so it takes little effort to opt for the ones with no offense result.

And of course, people shouldn't get offended that easily, but I like to try to avoid causing it where I can without changing who I am where possible.

Sort:

I think that you are surrounded with modern day Nazis. You will be suffering from some form of PTSD because of all the fact that you can not just speak your mind without having to weigh each and every word.

Why wouldn't one say that some people still treat Americans of African descent as if we were living in a a day and age where the term "Niggers" is acceptable. Did I offend anyone in saying the "N" word?

Hell no..... in fact I EXPRESSED THE POINT PERFECTLY!

So who in fact benefits from political correctness?

Those people who are in politics, as they can use this somewhat totalitarian approach to discredit anyone who tells the truth.

As far as manners and showing respect goes, there is no need for political correctness.

Good manners and mutual respect is one of the key foundations to western morals and societies in the 21st century.

I agree completelly. Unfortunatelly some people don't know how to yet but I hope we can teach without forcing a way of speach that is based on fear.

The thing about the whole 'Nigger' word, is that in certain societies it was used as a derrogatory term which turns it into an insult more than a descriptive word. For example, in Spain it is perfectly fine to say the word 'Paki', no one gets offended even if you use it incorrectly. However, in Britain it is one of the worst words you can use to describe anyone of Pakistanian descendant, the reason being that there is a history behind that word thay means that in certain societies it is converted into an insult or derrogatory description more than just a adjective of origin.

And it is my believe that in these cases, like you mention, with respect and manners these matters will eventually pass and will br a thing of the past.

That being said, I've seen the way people talk like walking on eggshells which is utterly mad. In Britain I've seen it to such extreme that it does indeed affect on political levels where people attack each other for an incorrect use of words where neither party was affected by it (and whoever should be, normally wouldn't be affected anyway). Mad

Every totalitarian regime in the history of mankind started off with banning or limiting a human beings right to freedom of speech.
