DAMASCUS, SYRIA (6: 25 P.M.) – With the Syrian Armed forces – supported by Russian Air Force – liberating more of the gas-rich territories from the Islamic State deep in the Syrian Desert, the Syrian government is quick to rehabilitate the wells to be productive again.

Today, the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources officially announced that two gas wells – formerly under ISIS control – have been fully rehabilitated and ready to be operational again.

The two wells are Sadad 8 and Abu Rabah, with a production capacity of 300 and 350 thousand square meters respectively.

This will further alleviate the power shortage the country is suffering from since the uprising broke out in 2011 where rebel groups have destroyed and sabotaged the country’s once advanced power plants and network.

During the 7-year war, jihadi groups – including Jabhet al-Nusra and the Islamic State – have taken over most of the country’s oil and gas wells. This – in addition to the crippling economic sanctions – have subjected the Syrian people to sustainable power and fuel crisis.
