Biden’s about to announce plans to spend trillions more to “compete with China” - We are already beyond screwed.
And this is why my plans to build a house more or less immediately after selling our existing house had to be put on hold.
By the way, this is a consequence of covid policies and tariffs. When you shut down whole industries for months, prevent people from working, limit international trade, and then pump trillions of dollars into the economy, you're going to end up with insane issues like this.
My only hope is that lumber prices will come down when 1) loggers, lumbermills, and transport industry people are back to full capacity of production; and 2) after the massive backlog of building projects clears out and the demand isn't so high.
Unfortunately, any aspect of these prices that's a function of inflation will remain, so no matter what, I'm worried that the estimate for the house we want to build that we got a year ago will still cost a lot more in 2-3 years.
I did warn y'all that the economic consequences of policies enacted last year around the world would be severe and yet also not apparent for a while. Well, they're starting to become apparent.
