The Loose Passive Poker PlayersteemCreated with Sketch.

Just the other day I made a 3x raise with pocket AA from late position. The blinds folded but player that limped in behind me called the raise. I am thinking "Great, getting some action when I got the weapons of mass destruction". So the flop hits A35, and they check and I bet 1/3 pot with my AAA and they call again. I'm in heaven, just got to run them down betting some every street. Turn and river are like a 9 and King. They kept calling each street and got all in with the river call. I am figuring they might of made a set of 333 or 555 because who would call a 3x preflop raise with 42? This guy did.

As the title describes the loose passive poker player likes to play lots of hands. They want to see the flop to make a pair or better. You can't win if you don't play is the motto. They just call the big blind amount or raise to see the flop.

I mentioned the term range in yesterday's post. Instead of trying to figure out a players exact hand its more reasonable to try to put them on a group of hands they would bet with, their range. When we have determined that a player is the loose passive type what does that say about the quality of the hands they are playing?

The table above represents all the possible hands. There are 1326 possible 2 card hands. A very loose passive player might try to see the flop with just a call with about 36.5% of the possible hands. Everything that is blue could be considered the range that they would call the bet.

The top 6.5% of hands would still be played but even loose passive types will raise really good cards like AA and KK. When a loose passive type bets with a raise preflop it’s a good practice to give them credit for a very good starting hand.

The loose passive type will call bets on the flop and turn if there is some hope of making a hand that might improve at showdown. If they made any kind of hand they will even call a river bet to see if the hand is good. Because they will call so many bets a lot of value can be gained by betting often with good hands. It's not a great idea to bluff them with little bets because more often than not they will call.

In general this type of play is weak. It will normally lose chips by slowly bleeding them away. Calling down bets with bad hands from a wide range normally does not work verses the other player types.
