Pokemon: New Pokemon Meltan Update

A new teaser was put up by the Pokemon Companies showing Professors Willow and Oak explaining the research on the new Pokemon Meltan. If you recall, Meltan was first discovered immediately after the last Pokemon Go Community Day Event featuring Chikorita. If you had caught it, it immediately transforms into Ditto. This led to plenty of speculation of it being a disguised Generation Four Pokemon. However, later the blogs and video clarified that it was an all-new Pokemon, number 891 of the Pokedex.

We have since learned that the release or finding of Meltan is related to some promotion of the upcoming Nintendo Switch game of Pokemon Let’s Go! It seems as there will be a reward box when you transfer Meltan found in the real world with Pokemon Go to the Switch game. This yields the possibility of capturing the real Meltan in Pokemon Go. There also seems to be a teaser that Meltan has another form or evolution as the shadow at the end of the video points to. The game code in Pokemon Go also points to a Pokemon number 892 which could support this thought.

While details are still being filtered, we now know that it is the first crossover promotion of two Pokemon games which shows the potential the franchise has to capitalize on the trainer in the world still playing Pokemon Go (like me). The challenge is how to balance all the content with the games already released and being released into the Holidays season where most gamers go an buy new games. Time will tell but at least they have been innovative in providing content to the players!
