My Pokemon Holo Card collection: Nostalgia 101

in #pokemon7 years ago (edited)

So pokemon has been around for 21 years now, and I have been interested in it in one form or another throughout those 21 years. Initially I loved collecting the cards, they probably were the first thing I really cared about collecting, and honestly I haven't collected much since them. I thought I would share with you the cards I have kept all these years.

Dumbledore: "@saywha .... all this time?" Me: "Always" (in my best Snape impression)
Since I got these cards I they have been my favorites. Charizard has and always will be my favorite pokemon, very slightly beating out @acidyo mew. I loved Charizard for various reasons, his styling I thought was absolutely the coolest, he was a great starter in the gameboy game, and he was my favorite "type" FIRE. Mew I loved for different reasons, it is my second favorite type psychic, and both had a lot of mystery around them back in the day. See... before internet access, there were so many rumors about finding mew in the gameboy game (most of them false), and because information wasn't quite as readily available us kids would try ANYTHING to atleast SEE this mysterious pokemon. Mewtwo simply put was just a badass, it killed everything in game... and it was awesome lol. Kabutops and Scyther, stylistically were the most savage pokemon in my opinion... they basically have knifes for hands... its just so gnarly... especially when you are 8 years old. I used to have an ancient mew card as well until about a year ago where it got stolen went missing.

This friggin card though... It is my favorite of them all. This rocket charizard just looks so cool. Most cards back then were fairly generic, and this took his original styling, and just gave him an attitude. (kinda like Ash's charizard)

Look at all these Grass wait.... grass?? pokemon??? If you know anything about pokemon you will know that only 1 of these is even part grass... the rest are a mix of poison bug and ground lol...

more typing confusion lol. Kabutops has never been a fighting pokemon... always rock and water... haunter/gengar psychic instead of ghost?

Time for that Burger King special lol. (These gold plated cards were available thru burger king at the time) I had the entire set at one point. I have given them away to friends and kids (like most of my cards) through the years, but I have kept my two favorites. Togepi and of course... charizard.

I hate you. I hate you more than life itself. If I could have all the bad things in the world happen to one person and only one, it would be you.

Seriously, I'm jealous as fuck.

there were so many rumors about finding mew in the gameboy game (most of them false)

No, seriously, you have to get a shiny Onyx to learn STRENGTH, then you can push the truck out of the way and there's a Mew trapped under it!!!!!

If you know anything about pokemon you will know that only 1 of these is even part grass...

Yeah, typing has always been up in the air between the cards and the games. Some of the types got retconned later too, if I recall correctly, when they decided they wanted to introduce new types...

It's not the only difference between media. The one that always got me was that in the show, their cries are all just their names. But in the games, the cries are completely different... endless pitch variations and cuts of the same 5 screechy glitch samples.

I always figured it was just a technical limitation, but the last Pokémon game I played was on a platform which could easily support real voices... but for some reason they never made the switch. Except for that one time in the Yellow edition, where Pikachu (and only Pikachu) actually speaks its name. Maybe it's changed these days; I don't know. I don't have time for Pokémon anymore.

I love your collection though! :)

So there WAS a mew coded in I found within the last few years but the problem is I found it in the last few years... Not then

The hidden cave with the Mew under the boulder you need to destroy with a Rock Smash. Reading Nintendo Power for secrets. Good memories. Good memories. :)

This post makes me want to cryptoCREME. Impressed to the Q-bone!
