Pokémon Go ‘Chasing Legends’ Special Research Tasks, choose a path Cacnea, Gulpin or Surskit rewards

In February 2023, Pokémon Go launched a special research quest called "Chasing Legends" as part of the Go Tour: Hoenn event. The quest follows the story of Rhi, who is trying to unravel the mysteries of Hoenn folklore, including the Red and Blue Orbs.
Players can complete this research task at their own pace, but it is much easier to finish during the event. There is no fee for this research, as the $4.99 ticket that goes with the event is for the Masterwork Research and shiny Jirachi instead.
In the "Chasing Legends" quest, players must choose a path between three Gen 3 Pokémon - Cacnea, Galpin, or Surskit. This choice will determine the requirements and encounters in Step 2. However, all three Pokémon can be found in the wild as part of the rotating habitats throughout the event, so none are missable.
The quest has six steps, and the first step requires players to power up their Pokémon 15 times using three Incense. After completing this step, the quest branches into three options, depending on the player's choice of Cacnea, Galpin, or Surskit.
Step 2 of the quest requires players to use an Incense and catch five of the chosen Pokémon, catch ten different species of Pokémon, and reward two Premium Battle Passes, 30 Poké Balls, and five Ultra Balls.
Steps 3 and 4 involve spinning 15 PokéStops or gyms, exploring 1 km, catching specific types of Pokémon, and catching a Groudon or Kyogre depending on the player's choice of Ruby or Sapphire in the "Primal Rumblings" Special Research. Players can also earn Castform encounters, Groudon or Kyogre Candy, and 200 Groudon or Kyogre Primal Energy.
Step 5 requires players to activate Primal Reversion using a Rocket Radar and defeat a Team Go Rocket Leader using three Revives. Finally, Step 6 offers a Spinda encounter and rewards players with 2,023 XP and 2,023 Stardust.
In addition to the "Chasing Legends" quest, players can participate in other challenges during the Go Tour Hoenn event, such as the Spooky Cipher research quests and the "Wish Granted" Masterwork research (a premium quest from the shop).
