The Universal Language of Sighs (Day 21)

Sigh

Mother tongue of the soul
a sigh needs no translation
universal breath

Past words
over their heads
quietly heard
noble air

Swirls of ether
yarns of yearning
melancholy music
played by the spirit
on the harp strings
of the heart

Sighs escape
unguarded

Proofs of endurance
evidence of excess luggage
plaintive protests
wrapped in acceptance
wistful winds on wings

From the depths
to the heights

They hover in the air
rise and return
in the form of rain
when clouds sigh, in turn
and wash us clean, again
with their tears.

You covered all the instances where a sigh escapes us unguarded, the silent protest is one. A sigh could mean a lot, its like chinese writing - one symbol representing a barrage of letters and words.

Always a joy to read <3

Quite a challenge trying to wrap words around wordless communication — basically Breath.

In my country, one of our greatest singers, Om Kalthoum (we call her the 4th pyramid) is known for the emotive eloquence of her sighs.

Words can hardly compete with what comes unfiltered/untranslated from the heart. ♥️

4th pyramid. You from Egypt?

I totally agree with you, words can hardly relate or convey the full emotions

First word in my bio: Egyptian ;)

Sweet dreams, brother 😴

In Urdu poetry this element is very common that you discussed here, The rain. Actually there is no doubt at all rain is basically a symbol of tears of clouds and why sky cries it rains. Beautiful imagination my friend Yahia, lovely piece of art :)

They hover in the air
rise and return
in the form of rain
when clouds sigh, in turn
and wash us clean, again
with their tears.

Good of you to, often, remind me of other traditions in poetry, such as Urdu. We are different, to an extent, in our perceptions, background and expression. We are also One, since poetry stems from the human heart :)

Thanks, for your attention and warm appreciation.

This is so true that our origin is same that is "Humanity". I am so obliged that i assisted you to remind the other traditions like Urdu :)

You have a gift for a turn of phrase. These lines are uniquely lovely:

yarns of yearning
melancholy music
played by the spirit
on the harp strings
of the heart

wistful winds on wings

when clouds sigh, in turn
and wash us clean, again
with their tears.

Happy to hear you appreciated this, @momzillanc, it's good to be heard :)

Very nice poem! I especially like the tranquil feel it has, like a slow afternoon in the country side with light summer rain...

What an intriguing description... glad it gave you that leasurely feel & space — marvelous that poetry can transport us that way!

Poetry has amazing powers! 😊

Mother tongue of the soul
a sigh needs no translation

Hello @yahialababidi, I apologize for not having visited before. Precisely, the last time we shared an opinion, we talked about the universal language of poems. Today focuses on the sighs, for me, it is poetry. Thank you.
