Hope—Writers Block Poetry Contest Week 3

in #poetry7 years ago (edited)

Hope

"Hope" is not quite as it seems—
it’s slimmer than you’d think
and less steady on its Feet—

Sometimes, it’s out of Breath
—can hardly See ahead
and cries itself to Sleep—

It may not Tell you all this—
or the times it cheated Death
but—if you knew it—you’d know

—how Hope can keep a Secret!

Beautiful, Yahia!
Wish I'd kept up better and seen this when I could upvote - but please know I'm a huge fan, and I love your work, all of it. You're #1 in my book. The Pablo Neruda of Steemit! :-)

You warm my heart, sweet Carol, and make me want to write/be better!

Thank you, thank you, for your great generosity of spirit! I know you’re busy doing good work & am grateful you could stop by.

Much Love ❤️

There goes the light I'd been scrolling for..... Yes. Lovely. And god, so very needed today for this here pilgrim at Tinker's Creek.

Thank you, fellow pilgrim, for the uplift that you provide. I know you, too, know how wobbly Hope can be & how brave. Sweet dreams 🙇🏻

em dashes, your choice in capitalized words, your line breaks and the guiding of the reader through each stanza with soft sounds and a seamless pacing!

not to mention the topic chosen and the turn!!
it's as if I could almost feel the feathers, Yahia, such a fun read!

Ah, yes, 'the thing with feathers'... How much she is able to pack in a poem, in just a handful of words. I'm so full of admiration for her aphoristic poetry and formal grace, that her style has (almost unconsciously) become part of my brain chemistry.

Glad to read your enthusiastic response and see this gave you joy :)

I LOVE this poem! This was a perfect rendition of what hope feels like sometimes. Very well put together, these thoughts of yours. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, for finding this :) It’s gratifying to hear that you enjoyed the style of my piece and identify with the quiet heroism of hope depicted. Enthusiastic readers, such as yourself, give me hope on Steemit :) Scribe on!
