STEEMITPOETRY: ON THE NEWS TONIGHT, ...
I don't watch the television and I don't watch the news and it is because there's enough negativity around me. I cannot pay to listen and watch more pain and negativity. That is insane.
This poem or collection of poems below paint a portrait of what I see whenever I get in contact with a news station.
Polished glass reading, repeating
Polished verbs and HD films
Viewing middle class murderers,
Listening to muted gunfire
Pockmarking concrete walls
With ra-ta-tattoos and graffiti,
Echoes of screams and of course, silence.
Defenceless limbs limping home
To stainless steel knives stealing lives
Of wives and boyfriends hidden
In closets and laundry baskets
As well as tired men and women
Watching their lives bloated skin
Peel away to censorship and gossip,
To social malice and empty dark nights
Masked paranoia masked
As righteousness
When godless minions sporting holy
Books, bombs, guns and counting beads
Splash pain like paint on canvass,
Drink in expensive scents,
Gilded jets, the promised heaven
And say 'yea and amen',
Needle marks and old bruises,
Throw fiery cocktails down the throat
Of kids trying to breathe, trying to live
And call it mercy.
Licensed serial killers
Getting balloted into control rooms,
Direct access to hidden lives;
Cameras, wiretapping, satellite tracking,
Nuclear weapons itching on their seats
Like little boys pressed with piss.
Seas spilling bodies
Of desperate screams, fighting
To stay alive, watching helpless as
Defenceless childhood is locked away
In the womb of political darkness
For a season, for freedom sake.
Rape victims hiding faces
Behind spit stained camera lenses,
Teenage spree freeing bullets
To seed bodies of teenage friends
Battling puberty, acne
And identity crisis.
For couch potatoes to peel
With hungry eyes and wet lips
That suckle pain like milk,
itching fingers clicking TV remotes,
Peeling lives one news station
At a time.
Footaging natural disasters
With unnatural viewpoints
And newsreel of children
Supporting broken parents
Seeking for evidence
Of their prior existence
As spool after spool unleash
The tattered remnants of lives
To satiate spectators
At the new Colosseum,
At news time.
The poem is divided into five parts and each part peeks into a common theme to be found in news broadcast. It does not stop there too but tries to show how news broadcast have evolved from being just updates of what is going on around the world to becoming entertainment vehicles that people look forward to, the way they look forward to their favorite show.
Each part can function as a standalone poem and also as a part of the whole.
I hope the poem reached you and shows you something as much as it had done me in the process of writing it. Stay blessed, stay positive.
Every single thing is this world has to effect Negative & Positive Now its depends on our self what we want to do positive or negative.
I can't stand watching news now. Even when I browse news online, I try to find the good ones because they are covered by the bad ones and used to post those in FB from time to time or share good news from the FB feed. I was trying to make my page more positive.

Yeah. I just don't watch TV. I consider it a waste of time. The continual portrayal of the world as damaged is just tiresome. It would seem pain sells more than joy.

There's no possible way I can watch the news without getting angry, so I just don't watch them 😅

What an insightful view on the news, you seem looking at it from differen points of view, but the conclusion is all the same - they suck!!!! Splendid write! After reading the piece I was left with a feeling of having watched the news themselves, but we don't even have a TV ))) Maybe your efforts will reach people's hearts and maybe even open their eyes, because poetry reaches straight to the heart, an if maybe someone didn't realize before, that news is evil, they will now.
News is just a tool to brainwash the "sheep", can't believe people are being lobotomized volunteerily...
