IN YOUR EYES: A POEM

In your eyes
I am a man, strong.
My skin is black with the earth
And shining with the sweat of the sun.
My lips are full and filled with laughter.
It calls you to kiss and linger
Within the taste of my tongue.
My shoulders are wide enough
To hold your head when the need
To a weep a tear fills your eyes.
My chest is a space to rest,
When weary with the weight
Of bearing the world and
Listen to my heart
Telling you what love means.
I am your man within your eyes.

In my eyes,
When you look in, I hope you see
That you are a regal being;
Your cornrows, rough with toil,
Is the texture of the earth,
Your full lips always ready for a kiss
Is a sweet nectar that awakens the gods
That lie dormant within my limbs,
Your soft sweet scented skin is my home
And shelter against the storms,
Your breasts is where I find rest
When my body wobbles with weakness,
Your hips is where I finds the stars
And understands what it means
To be true and yet human.

In your eyes, you and I
Is the world paused in a breath,
A butterfly breaking out of chrysalis,
The soft roar of a distant sea,
The trembling step of a precipice,
The longing dazzle of a setting sun.
In your eyes, you and I
Is everything that should be,
Everything indeed that could be
And truly everything that is.
