ANZAC Lest We Forget

in #poetry6 years ago

Well once again, it's that time of the year,
just a day off work, an excuse to drink beer.
But not to the family’s, of the brave men who swore,
they’d defend this great land, if we entered the war.

Defending our home, from the bush to the beach,
and protecting the rights, to a freedom of speech.
I feel for the men who fought, for another man's cause,
when it wasn't them, who were starting the wars.

I feel for the men, who did not have a say,
they wrote with blood and tears, to their family’s each day.
Describing the chaos, and all the destruction,
growing tired and weary, still they followed instruction.

Days, months and years, the war tested their will,
even in dark times, they pushed forward still.
At times it seemed, that there was no way out,
then one of our warriors, would stand up and shout.

If it's a fight that they want, then let me just say,
we'll give em' a fight, the Australian way.
What happened next, is no mystery,
they fought their way, through history.

It's for these reasons, as sure as the sun will set,
that we will remember, lest we forget.
My hand on my heart, here as i stand,
i remember this country’s sons,
that defended her land.
