Human Misgivings

Human misgivings are a natural thing.
Honest emotions so easily swing,
Crushing what little hope that he had
Of ever ridding himself of the bad.

What makes a man try to do good?
Why does he think he ever could?
That’s not to say that he shouldn’t try
But that brings me back to the question of why.

Is he trying to work his way to salvation?
Is that the same mindset that’s plaguing our nation?
He thinks that he has to repent every day
Of all of his shortcomings and misguided ways.

The law wasn’t given to keep man so bound,
Tied to the rules where religion is found.
The law was given to show man his sin
Of which through the blood he no longer lives in.

That’s why he ought to be thankful for grace.
The blood that was shed covered every trace
Of the sin laden man that he once used to be.
The debt of that sin was paid on the tree.

Now he is made righteous apart from the law
And justified freely by the One without flaw.
But now how much more will he want to uphold
This law that by faith, he’s no longer controlled!

For every misgiving, is no longer seen
From the least to the greatest or those in between.
His grace is enough to sustain man on earth,
A gift from our God, to show us our worth.
