renewal

a newly mown lawn tingling in primal spring
each slap a tickle of whirring steel
those six revolving blades
a renewal of the flesh

she trembles on a scent - an urge to grow
to heal sharp wounds with
cut out comic strip character band-aids
plastic tape and sticky glue
hidden in her skin

naked
a Dodie doll flown in from the land of Oz
she was loved once I think
but then - abandoned
her mind indolent with the passing years

arms bent back
cracked glass cerulean eyes
sightless in her china chipped face
grace marked by wear - and why

I pick her up in soiled hands
scrape grass stains on her scattered knees
hoping I have time to mend
rips of fabric in her skin
a sewing kit a skein of trust
ceramic paste in ivory

I patch her up as best I can
wait patiently for grass to grow

some days she falls apart again -
my glue takes time to hold
