A WOMAN'S HONOUR

Love bade me hope, and i obeyed;
Phyllis persevered still unkind:
Then you may also e'en despair, he mentioned,
In vain I attempt to change her mind.

Honour's got in, and keeps her heart,
Durst he but venture once abroad,
In my own proper i would take your section,
And exhibit myself the mightier God.

This huffing Honour domineers
In breasts on my own the place he has place:
but when proper generous Love seems,
The hector dares not show his face.

Let me nonetheless languish and whinge,
Be most unhumanly denied:
i have some pleasure in my pain,
she will be able to have none with all her pleasure.

I fall a sacrifice to love,
She lives a wretch for Honour's sake;
Whose tyrant does most cruel show,
The change just isn't tough to make.

Don't forget actual Honour then,
you can find hers cannot be the equal;
'Tis noble confidence in guys,
In females, mean, mistrustful shame.
