PULL OF GRAVITY

in poetry •  last year

A hostage to my own silence
Shiny, silver strands strangle
The syllables dying in my
Throat and the ransom

Has always been too high
Chewing cotton ball wishes
The lump in my throat smacks
Of my inability to swallow

And the pull of gravity is
Losing to the push of
A stranger who once
Used to be your friend
