They said dust to dust
I froze
as your memories decided
to flood my mind
with snippets
of your healing smile
at that exact moment.
My hands clenched that dirt
like I would the edge
of your colorful skirt
whenever on edge
in my younger days
unwilling to let go.
Ash to ash
sorrowfully they sang
as my eyes wandered into the crowd
looking to find your serene face
among those present
breathing with me
just to ask
how I am to function,
without my compass?
Grief is forever mine
for my all as a child of this universe
lies quietly in your grave
my earthly form of God himself
purest unconditional love
there is
yanked away by the unforgiving,
deadly hand of death.
Tell me if the moon
will ever shine like before soon
now that the eyes that ignited mine

to watch over my disturbed soul.
