I REMEMBER HER (PART ONE)

She was a happy girl.
Not that it was a happy childhood.
But…
There were those moments.
She felt beautiful.
Despite being an average looking girl.

Her laughter resembled her mum’s.
So did a lot more of her.
Her facial features.
That strong and deep voice.
Her short temper.
And also her long thin fingers.

Everything.
Or almost everything.
She had no one else to compare herself with.
She never met her father.
And it was forbidden to ask.
She was her mother’s first born and that was the end.

Her happiness took a blow.
Her world was hit by an earthquake.
From a very painful transition of a lump to cancer.
Her mother was no more.
Death took away her favorite girl.

Grief consumed her soul.
Sadness creeped in her heart.
She cried.
But
Tears never dried.
Even after she got married.

She thought he was better than her cold relatives.
Till blows became his way of communication.
Her former classmates were away in high schools.
But here she was playing house while ducking knives.

She waited for him to change.
All she wanted was to be happy again.
She didn’t even care about his wage.
She was just tired of her pain.
Playing a grown woman wasn’t in sync with her age.
