Watching until the end

Watching until the end

We watched the same moon you and I
as the sky showed no stars. A life of loss and forgiveness,
a world of suffering and scars. You knew me like no other
would ever know another, yet time would weather us down,
from lover to friend to none. And while the waning light fled
our shadows would become one.

Driving rain, through mud and slush
we walked with no place to find. Limping upon broken leg,
twisting on crooked spine. Heavy the sky but not ready to fall
and crush us beneath its weight. Onward to serve cruel master
and cross beyond in haste, leaning on one another
in the hope swift was our fate.

Did you know where it would lead
when you spilled the words you uttered? A sickle moon harvested
and all upon path it gutted. To forget is to remember that the pain
was all too complete, to remember is to hold the past as a beacon
of life put to rest. A guiding force of forever, to ensure that none
will ever come to repeat.

I waited for you under that moon
as you said you'd always be there. I spoke to you as I tumbled,
asking for a hand to spare. From the darkness of the gloom
nothing broke the fall below, I cried for the first time that night
as the loneliness consumed. But as the candles flickered,
the sun within began to glow.

There is always a sun somewhere inside :) No matter how deep the darkness around appears.
This is beautiful, Taraz, really well-written and piercing. And full of pain.

Thank you. I think that sun is the only thing we can rely on.

The poem stirs several emotions of which a good poem does. Thank you for sharing your talent and your thoughts. They stir the heart @tarazk0

I never really know where they will lead.
