The Sound of Settling
I love,
that articulated means to say something well, and also something that is jointed-
our words are connected,
just as a body extends a hand
over a canyon of pain and sorrow.
What if language got
arthritis?
The spaces between phrases
popping
and
creaking.
These sounds of settling,
echo through the holes of me;
through the whole of me,
and you.
Huge shout-out to @geekorner for support with the final lines and doing some editing for content. This piece is better because of the Thunder God! Art was done by @arelyz. See their original post here and check out all of their beautiful art!
Art is property of @arelyz
Poetry is property of Sunravelme
Thank you, @sunravelme, for this remarkable observation.
Although I "knew" the use of "articulated" in both contexts, never before reading your poem have I juxtaposed and contemplated the interplay of meaning.
😄😇😄
I was thinking about playing with the word "resigned" next- we will see where it goes! Thank you for checking out my poem and supporting poetry in general!
I love this play on words
Thank you lovely! I owe geekorner the majority of the credit for the play on words- he really helped me a lot with this one!
I couldn't help but be lead by your lines to my thoughts of the very old vinyl records in my collection, the musics that wear their arthritis in the pops and creaks of their sound.
There is something so unique and powerful in it, so, and maybe this is just me, I would think I would hear this power in the movements of even the oldest language.
Thank you for sharing, Kara, lovely read. <3
Oooooo it's awfully tempting to add something about records skipping in there after this comment....
I truly loved the whole poem, but especially this part. It gave it so much more 'life'. A very interesting concept and it's well executed.
Hey Sun! Glad I could've been of minor assistance, but the work was almost entirely yours. I think you just needed the confidence boost of being told it's good. And it is!
Looking forward to having you back in the waters of poetry at large, and the Isle in particular :)
Also, that art by @arelyz is quite great.
Thank you for all your help! I think I also needed someone to bounce the ideas off of a bit!
I love all of their art and had such a hard time choosing just one piece! Fantastic artist
Oh yeah, I am never self-conscious about my username, but when people say "The Thunder God!" it actually comes off funny :D
I like this one.
Thank you!
poetry snaps I pictured two creaking, wooden ships at the very end for some reason. The imagery your poem envoked for me was amazing!
Thank you lovely ❤ nice to get back in the swing of things a little
I love this. I love contemplating language and I am hypermobile (double jointed) so I also spend a lot of time thinking about my unfortunate stretchyness...overarticulation if you like :-) great perspective. lovely images.
Doesn't arthritis also cause swelling and deformation? ugh!
That almost sounds like a super power (but is probably very painful).
Arthritis does cause swelling and deformation- it is interesting to think about how words can also cause pain, and be old and creaky just when we want them to be young and nimble.
Really liked this.
Thanks! Nice to hear from one of my favorite writers on steemit!
