The Assistant [Original Collaborative Poetry]
Source
You circle
in closer
shoving swords down my throat
with a theatrical flair
I smile
as you saw me in half
complicit in your illusions
spitting flames
juggling truths
with a little sleight of hand
You speak
casually
a magician throwing
daggers
while I
cower
praying
please be the last
near miss

I am glad I saw this in my feed...
To me, this speaks powerfully of the difficulty of personal relationships, and the all too frequent imbalance between members of a couple.
Thanks for sharing. ;)
😄😇😄
You get it, for sure! I think in relationships, people can take turns being the magician and the assistant, but there is a power dynamic that is reflected in that metaphor for sure.
Very nice poem.
Absolutely devastating imagery as per usual sunravelme! I really like way you breathe life into the extended metaphor. The imagery of the performance and the subtext about 'the performance' in relationships. These particular lines whacked me upside my head with the real good poetry feeling ;-)
Enjoyed this poem very much. Thanks for sharing :-)
The short line close-up styling on this really works. Great imagery. Great theme. Real good stuff.
So creative @sunravelme. Let's hope the assistant gets a turn throwing daggers!
The assistant finds her own way for sure 😉
