Primal
it creeps
up my shoulders and around my neck
to cover my eyes
that see
nightmares in the daytime and
dream-creatures that walk the streets
of the city
that cradles me
and to which
i pay my tithes
it takes
the unexplainable
the unfathomable
and breaks them
into pieces
and feeds me
what i can digest easily without
overextending
or
pushing my appetite
beyond its limits
so eager am i to know
it sweeps
my hair from my brow
the lint from my collar
the dust from my toes
and shrouds me
protecting me from the wind
that blows ill omens to my door
it sleeps
within me
teeth bared
muscles tensed
ready to pounce when called
