A Ministrel's Warning

in #poetry7 years ago

No one ever fears the Jester
As if you could trust the trickster

Although he could never be the King
He’s gotten good at handwriting

So after a night of spreading glee
He can quickly change your decree

He juggles schemes as well as balls
The unknown cause of kingdom’s falls

You should always be suspicious
Golden bells make fools ambitious

Be wary of his constant smile
Behind his jokes, lies all his guile

Throw the fool in the deepest moat
Better yet, slit the comic’s throat

As surely as I play this fife
That Jester will end your life

Notes: A fun story that came to my mind one afternoon. It easily grew from the first line - 'No one ever fears the Jester'. It then made sense to have this come from the voice of someone else, like the minstrel, playing ominously in the kings court. Keep in mind, appearances can always be deceiving.
