RE: Haiku - A Poem About a Poem in Haiku - Enjoy with Troy!

in #poetry7 years ago

Hi Troy I finally got it. They sent you a link taking you to steewit dot com via someone else's account that they had hacked. Possibly someone they knew you would trust. The steewit dot com website is a replica of the steemit.com website and all they need is for you to log on and they have got your key. As 99.9% of us don't check the address bar we wouldn't have noticed the address change as both addresses are so similar. It is a very clever phishing scam. The only way to avoid being caught is to strictly using your posing key to log in and out of your account. Nobody is likely to notice the difference in the two addresses especially when the contents look and possibly are both real. As far as I can see many people are saying that anybody who clicks on these links is stupid or dumb don't have a clue what they are talking about. The scam is way more involved than that. I'm sure they will be using VPN's so there is no way to trace their destination either. As having had an anxiety disorder myself I understand what you are going through. I can only imagine the state I would have been in if it had happened to be before I got rid of my disorder. The reason why this scam could continue into the future is that we need to use both our posting and master/active keys to work with steemit and as many of us save our passwords in our browsers we will constantly be asked to update our passwords when changing from one to another and could accidentally use our master/active key again without realizing it. However if they only get your posting key your funds may be safe but they can still use your account to post/comment etc their phishing links and whatever other nonsense they come up with. This is scary stuff for steemians. Hang in there Troy you were a victim of an elaborate phishing scam and it's not your fault.
