Everybody Must Get Stoned (Original Poem) - A Homage to Bob Dylan, Nobel Prize Winner in Literature

Bob Dylan was awarded with the Nobel Prize in literature today for the new poetic expressions he created. Well deserved Mr. Tambourine Man!

At times I still spent hours listening to his songs and often I play „Everybody Must Get Stoned“ in a loop.

I can remember a long discussion about a decade ago with a friend about who was greater Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash. Imagine this, two kids born end of the 80ies in Germany were analyzing the greatest world musicians of the 50ies and 60ies. Bob, I was on you side, I cannot recall if I managed to convince my friend though.

With this poem I want to pay my homage to one of the greatest musicians and one of the most creative writers.

Everybody Must Get Stoned.
I can’t bear the overwhelming,
never ending suspicion.
Hard boned faces, staring eyes,
combativeness, suppressed laughs
are leading to a gradually rising cold
in a society that blindly locks out minorities.

Everybody Must Get Stoned.
All, including the old,
inhale deeply! Let your breaths be visible!
Warm up you cold-hearted
and lose your frown.
Back down your critical natures.

Everybody Must Get Stoned.
All doomsayers of press and politics
inhale deeply! Lose your stiffness.
Time to blow out your ingrained vanities.
The world will not find an end today.

Everybody Must Get Stoned.
You mighty inhale deeply!
End the sheer boundless amount of casualties.
And the world will not find an end today.

Everybody Must Get Stoned.
