Spike the Mossa Ball, Day 55 of the 100 Days of Poetry @d-pend, Tree Tuesday @old-guy-photos &
Spike the Mossa Ball
Day 55 owes its inspiration to a contest run by @barbara-orenya to name another steemian superstar's new friend ... @luigi-the-gnome. You can check out the post here.
He grew up on the shady side of the tree
a rough bended-neck of the Douglas
with nothing to munch but discarded bee’s knees
and rotting-away lichen fungus
The rain fell cold and the sun never did shine
except upon his not-quite round head
Just like Narnia, here was a micro-clime
on which grew, an aloe vera bed
Given his spiky hair, he was an outcast
couldn’t roll; he had to catapult
To his own kind, he was an iconoclast
so he set out to form his own cult
All woodland creatures would be invited
furry, feathered, scaly, leaved and mossed
gnomes, fairies, even the wingly-sprited
He’d be Spike, the mossa ball cult boss
Photo and words are copyright Pryde Foltz.
Douglas refers to a Douglas Fir
Narnia was a magical land in the work of CS Lewis.

He is a handsome moss ball:)
Pretty, wholesome write Pryde - 'nothing to munch but discarded bees knees' made me smile :)
Thank you, Lazarus:)
Nice to meet you Spike! Enjoy hanging out in your 'hood of fabulous trees! 😉
Thanks, Denise:) This was so much fun to write:)
Although I'm not sure I get the meaning of "the Douglas" here, I think I got the essence of this poem, which I find clever, blunt and ironic. I've sometimes thought about how silly we humans are to reject paradigms that we are bound to repeat.
Douglas has been only a name so far. Now I see I should’ve put more attention :/
Thanks, @prydefoltz. I really enjoy your texts
Thank you, Marlyn. Douglas refers to a Douglar Fir, a very common tree in these neck of the woods:)
That is one cool trunk.
I hope you got your spigot turned off!
Thanks Paul. Down to slow drip but it has messed with my throat too ... I currently have quiet the tenor:)
photography is good
