Eve Awake

Screen Shot 2017-04-10 at 12.02.07 AM (1).jpg

a painted canvas
promised love and eternity
promises went unmet
a brush was lost to a fickle grip

the canvas tore apart when avowals unravelled
fanciful strokes dissolved upon venomous, gossamer thread

in forked tongues of a thousand he spat
unaware of the legions that lay within his own coils

the python squeezed her awake
yet it was Eve who shed her skin
better reborn, naked, free of skein or stroke
than to lay penned forever among a serpent's weave

This is my favorite poem of yours thus far. It's beautiful and it hurts. The imagery is powerful.

Thank you, intspekt. It was a tough time for my psyche:)

I can imagine so. I don't have to imagine. I know. All those experiences make for some great writing, though. That's life's reward for all we go through. You live, you learn - then you write about it. You make it look easy lol. It's how you word it that's so striking. Surely a talent, but more so a skill, and it shows.

Wow ... I feel very appreciated. Thank you, Intespekt:)

Good. ;) And you're welcome.

Excellent wordings. Very visual .....

(I had to look up "avowals" ... Great word)

A journey of wakening and self-empowerment

Venturing out alone can be scary at times, but as you say, better that than staying in something that destroys your spirit.

Well said. Thank you, Westley:)

@prydefoltz ... this was a wonderfully weaved description of awakening and unwinding ;) thank you!

Thank you so much, Blanca:)

an chilling depiction in images and verse of the primal curse

Thank you, John:)

This poem is so powerful. The textile bits that you’ve interwoven (pun intended) really add depth. And this line:

Yet it was Eve who shed her skin

Wow. I really enjoyed this.

So glad you enjoyed:) Thank you, Jayna:)
