The Wind Chime (Poem)
The Wind Chime
Once upon a time
There was a windchime
On a sunny porch
By a big, black birch.
And in the birch tree
Was a chick-a-dee
And his family
Nesting happily.
They would hear the tune
In the afternoon-
The chime in the breeze
Near the chick-a-dees.
They’d hear it with glee
And sing until three:
“Chick-a-dee-dee-dee”!
in the big birch tree.
They swoop down to feed
On the good birdseed;
Follow the leader
To the bird feeder.
Then go down the path
To the nice bird bath
Where they’d flap their wings
As the daddy sings…
“Chick-a-dee-dee-dee!
Come and fly with me!
We can sing our song
As wind plays along…
On the old wind chime
During summertime!”
When they need some rest
They return to nest.
And as they relax
They can hear the clacks
Of the melody
That chimes ever free.
It’s the chime in the breeze
Near the chick-a-dees.
