From Cannonball to Joshua Tree

A poem I wrote about the experience of feeling called to Standing Rock.

From the Cannonball River to Joshua Tree
A Prayer came across the wind
It Whispered
It Talked
It Called
It Whipped the Wind

It SCREAMED
MNI WICONI
(Water is Life)
The Whisper came with Artists navigating Road Blocks
The talking came as
Bulldozers snuck their teeth into Burial Grounds
The call came when The Buffalo arrived
As the Drums Thundered Through many nights
The Screaming came in the the Whispers of the Ancestors Prayers
From Joshua Tree to the CannonBall
I heard the prayer
And heeded its call to come to the banks of the River
My being had been awakened.
