The Pauper. A poem of misery
Everyday you see him..
Humble.. Beckoning.. Pleading..
With pale skin covered in dried sorrowful sores and sickly eyes filled with dire expectations..
Eyes that stare deep deep down into your conscience or is it your soul..
He stretches and reaches out to you..
The troubling scent of hopelessness and despair reeks as he reaches out to you..
One cannot help but feel somewhere between being awfully sad and utterly disgusted..
Take away the mask and the charade..
Take it all take away the facade..
Behind all the senses that are staged
All the pleasure all the pain..
The funny moments and smiley face..
The truth we bear the choices we make..
This..
This is our true nature..
This is the perfect reflection of humanity
This curled up creature who begs is our reality..
Behind the mask of our beauty lies the ugly truth called sanity..
We are flawed and hypocritical.
Curled up creatures called paupers..
Like this man we stink of doom..
We are poor hopeless,
We are in need of relief soon..
He cries and begs..
Upon him the heat and sweat..
Beckoning, pleading..
Full of despair he is utterly displeasing..
In this pauper is our likeness
In his image we see our wretchedness.
Flawed and absconded..
Rejected and polluted..
This is us..
This is the pauper..
About the poem
In this short writing I hoped to show the hopless misery of human nature and his very own hypocrisy towards his very own self.. He is disgusted by the beggar on the road yet he fails to realise that he is in every way just as wretched and poor as that pauper.. It is a poem that seeks to open up the self conscious side of people and have them realise their faults and instead of condemning others, work on their ownselves. I hope you see it in this light or a much more enlightened manner
