We are the criminals who ask
What have we not done!?
We are the feared ones
who aren’t without fear themselves.
And what have we not done!?

Ay, but to lose our bottles in the pool,
We who wear our trousers rolled
to scorn the poet who thought us senile.
We who are just like promises, made only to be kept.
Ay, what have we not done,
answering prayers with our smile
