Where we blindly seek images, sounds and feelings reflected from the pool of the past.
A place where memories are blurred and thoughts are fractured.

Yet memories can dart into the brain as keen and pellucid as diamond needles,
As though a memory possessed a will of its own, unfathomable to human understanding.

Are we simply tormented by the spirits who witness our loss and our weakness?
Forced to gaze bright-eyed at clarity of failure and inability reclaiming glory of heady success.

Still deeper, past the tentacle weeds of hesitation and confusion,
Navigating powerful currents of fear, anger and sadness,
I search the very sand bed of my life for a source of light.
