Lightning

Miles away, as I tuck me to sleep,
I hear her come woeful, treading and deep.
Booming and bustling 'gainst hill and dale,
So loud that even the bravest pale.

Splendid spontaneity spanning inner space
sparks from the fingers of a faithful God.
Threatening and sometimes burning, true,
yet bringing life to farm, field and sod.

Illuminating all from end to bitter end,
consternation that behooves and bewitches.
Flitting sometimes, and other times roaring,
unleashing Hecate and all her bitches.

Sullen reminder of the power of the King,
each stroke a poignant alibi.
Tasting both bitter and intoxicatingly sweet,
Lashing those who to harness her try.

An elemental force above comprehension,
Sprung from the mind of both man and maker.
Lighting the world with pure natural force,
Gregarious giver and terrible taker.

Shining so far and with such clean emanation
to remind one of the day not far hence
When all humanity from all diverse nations
will witness her maker's defense.
