A Clear And Present Danger
Political discourse has run amok
controlled by emotion
lack of any substance
just shameless self-promotion
polarizing rhetoric
exacerbating by nature
defines this heated climate
sharp as any razor
the least informed among us
bombastic and crude
rejecting all civility
hostile and rude
beating a drum
that enflames and divides
circling the wagon
making us chose sides
intimidating bullies
looking for a fight
destroying peoples lives
out of fear and spite
a cloud uncertainty
hangs in the air
the stress and anxiety
too much to bear
appealing to the worst
the ugliness inside
disguising the truth
as two worlds collide
vilifying rationality
any compromise at all
turning our system
into an all out brawl
there's nothing wrong
with intelligent discourse
but politically fueled violence
is hard to endorse
however you cut it
it's a total game changer
undoubtedly signifying
a clear and present danger.

It sure is!
Things are pretty polarized. But life goes in cycles and I feel I'm just starting to see little signs of movement away from extremes. The yin and yang will always be there but I think people are tired of the drama and are heading toward the middle road.
