Poetry| Fragile Ship
I stood in the bay watching the ship sails
Assuming from afar
It would be a rough journey
As the wind goes south to north unpredictably
Before, I thought
"They shouldn't sail"
With the rusty dock and unprepared crews
But
They wouldn't listen
What are they chasing for?
Profits?
Benefits?
Freedom?
But could they find it easily in the vast ocean?
The seagulls were circling above my head
They said " the ship shouldn't sail"
"I have warned them, they wouldn't listen"
Now,I simply wish they could survive
Very interesting! From my interpretation I feel like this ship is a metaphor for love, a new, desired relationship, and you standing on the bay is you reflecting on your past and contemplating about the harsh truths of this relationship; the egoistic desire to possess, the sexual needs that long to be fulfilled, and a security and comfort provided by the other. All of these once seemed like great goals, yet now, as you look back on them, they are deemed destructive, and all you wish for is a pocket of fresh air and a chance to resurface and live on.
I feel like this could be interpreted in many, many ways and this is my way of looking at it. Thank you so much. I really appreciate and enjoy your poetry!
The interpretation of poetry is limitless, it's up to the reader. Anyway you're right that the ship is the metaphor for love and that there was some past involved. It's so refreshing to be able to interpret poetry freely without having to only agree on one point of view. I think most cases, I mean inside the school is that, they restrict me to interpret poetry and limit the idea into box of right or wrong. thank you for appreciating my poetry! I'll definitely check out all of your poems.
cheers
You're welcome! And I definitely agree with school limiting our point of views when it comes to poetry and any type of art to be completely honest. It's only after school that one discovers the true beauty of such things as poetry, art, literature, and many more... :) Thank you so much!
Very nice, Will be looking forward to your posts.
