Poem: Little Ship
The waves leap and sway
It is a joy to dance upon them
I enjoy this sunny day
It truly is a gem
I go about my duties
No one seems to care
This box is filled with rubies
Glad no one took the dare
It is risky business out here
Those pirates are plentiful
I keep a close watch and listening ear
My cargo is impeccable
Just a little ship on the sea
Traveling the world at my leisure
No one out here but me
But I'm preparing my countermeasure

well, this is an undervalued post - not sure how @screenname missed this. I like the tone of voice, the sustained comparison between a little ship and pirates and marauders that walk our streets waiting to plunder our lives. Nicely done
Thank you! I enjoyed writing this late at night in a silly mood. I have a desire to move into children's stories. This felt like a ripple in that current.
I thought this poem was lovely and rich in allusion - nothing silly about it. Why children's lit?
Thank you for the kind words. I find imaginative, simple, and sometimes silly stories come naturally to me. I am the oldest in a fairly large family. My mother noticed a childlike wonder about me long ago. Hence the interest in writing children's lit.
I have a child-like wonder too. It's the manifestation of the writer's gift. You are called to pay attention to life while all the rest of the world seems asleep to its beauties and truths. Write about the wonder and don't worry about your audience. If you are faithful to your vision, your readers will find you. They may not be who you think.
I copied that statement and saved it on my phone. Wow. Never thought of writing as a calling for me. It is freeing to look for the beauty and truth in life and not go searching for the audience. They will find us. Thank you for that insight friend.
