My First Cigarette / Poem
My First Cigarette
they try to label cigarette smoking as a sin,
but all that ever comes out is just an annoying din.
it hasn’t been too long since i first ignited
my very first smoke, man, that shit made me excited.
i stole one from my momma and then ran straight out the door.
i didn’t say a word cause i knew that would start a war.
i walked up to a lake and sat right by the cold water,
and took a lighter out to spark the cigarette; hotter
is how my body felt right then at that eerie time.
i was about to throw away all that was ever mine;
a child’s innocent approach to a deadly drug.
and then the second that i sparked it, my lips gently hugged
the outer walls of a substance that was very bitter.
i wasn’t even surprised that i once called it litter.
as i inhaled the godly fumes from that cigarette,
inside my mind there were seldom traces of regret.
